 Isolation transformers and auto voltage selector switches
Safety is your priority when you are staying on your yacht, whether out at sea or in the harbor with your onboard system connected to shore power. Selecting the right components for your shore power installation is a key factor here. In larger installations, you will need more than just a galvanically isolated battery charger.


Shore power

A battery charger with earth leakage switch as

The most basic system - safe enough so long as the battery charger has galvanic isolation, as Mastervolt battery chargers have. In order to completely rule out the risk of leakage we recommend you install an earth leakage switch. Earth leakage switches, which are standard in any household electricity installation, cause the AC power connection to break off as soon as any leakage occurs. Most are activated by a leakage of 10-30mA.

An isolation transformer for total isolation

The best way to isolate the 230/110/12/24V DC onboard electricity system from the shore is by installing a high-quality isolation transformer. Mastervolt has several versions for you to choose from:

The IVET-D series; a range of compact models for 16 or 30 Amperes, housed in the robust Dakar enclosure and including a high output torroidal transformer, soft start and an automatic fuse.
The IVET series; suitable for higher capacities, with or without enclosure and softstart for 110/230 Volt in and output.

All these transformers comply with the CE and ABYC (US norm) guidelines for vessels; all models up to 4.5 kVA include a standard soft start, an automatic switch that suppresses the inrush current from the transformer to prevent the shore fuse from blowing.
